Style guidelines for figures

APA style guidelines for adding figures available on Douglas College Library Website, APA Guide

 

You can follow this general structure to create figure notes from your metadata:

Figure no. Title. Description. From Source. Rights.

To add figure notes to your Omeka page 

When adding an item to your content block on your page (under Exhibits>Pages, after clicking "Add Item"):

Enter your figure note in the text box "Provide a caption" - this text will display under your image on the public facing page:

Bibliography

Add a text content block at the end of your page for your bibliography. 

Provide full citations for all of the archival artifacts on your page and any secondary sources or publication quoted.

 

General format for References (Textual, Still Object, Moving Image) 

 

Creator, A.A. (Date). Title or description of the materials. Collection or series (Series number, box/file/item number, etc., if identifiable), Archive name, location. Accessed Month Day, Year, URL. 

 

Example: 

The Outreach Institute. (1979). Femme Fare: Daily Newsletter of Fantasia Fair Vol.3.No.7. Fantasia Fair: Newsletters (cr56n098w). Digital Transgender Archives, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Accessed February 26, 2025. https://www.digitaltransgenderarchive.net/files/cr56n098w 

 

Note: Try to provide as much detail as possible. If you cannot identify collection, series, box, file and item number, proceed with citation with that information omitted. 

Shape 
​Unknown creator/author 

 

Where there is no author/creator, provide the title followed by the date and source.

Interview/Oral History ​ 

 

Interviewee A.A. (Year, month day). Interview by A.A. [Format]. Project title. Project Sponsor. Name of Repository, location. Accessed Month Day, Year, URL.​

General format for In-text Citations 

 

Parenthetical citation 

The author’s surname and publication date separated by a comma 

(Author’s surname, Year) 

 

Narrative citation 

The author's name is part of the preceding setence, followed by the year in parentheses
