Writing a Curatorial Statement

A curatorial statement is a summary of your curatorial method and approach. It is a chance for you to provide context, situate your ideas, and explain the concepts your exhibition explores.

When writing up your curatorial statement, consider the following:

  • What is theme, concept, or topic of my exhibition?
  • Who is the target audience and what is the purpose?
  • What method(s) or theoretical approaches did I explore or execute in the exhibition?
  • Describe each object (original material/format, source archive, author, creators, original dimensions). Why was it selected?
  • How does each object contribute to your exhibition theme or curatorial concept?
