Metadata Guidelines for Omeka Student Projects

Title

The name given to the object or resource.

Note: copy as is from source repository when provided. If not provided, use your best judgement to create a meaningful title that identifies the object or resource.

 

Creator

The primary person responsible for the creation of the original object or resource.

Last name, First Name

Note: The item may not have an identifiable creator; if so, leave blank.

 

Date

The date the original item was created.

For example, this could be:

Year: 1960

Month, Year: August, 1960

Month Day, Year: August 7, 1960

Range or time period: 1960s, 1960-1961

 

Description

A short summary of what the item is

Write 1-2 clear sentences that are factual and grammatically correct

 

Language

Primary language of in the resource. If not applicable, leave blank.

 

Rights

Use the same rights statement stated in the record from the source repository. If no rights statement is listed on the item record, enter the “Copyright undetermined”

 

Subject

What is the resource “about”? Enter keywords, topics and themes that capture the “aboutness” of the object. 

Only add one keyword, topic or theme per input box

Add additional keyword input boxes by clicking the  “Add Input” on the left

Source

Name of the repository that the item originates from. For example, an archival item may be part of a particular institutional archive (making the institution the item’s source), or it might be from a particular library (making the library your source). If you cannot identify the original archival source, provide the name of the digital website you found it on. If you have a link to the digital representation of your item from a site, add here.
