Student Research Poster Presentations

Guidelines, tips, templates and more about how to create an academic research poster

Overview

Regardless of format it's important to cite any external sources you used in your academic work.  Some general tips for posters:

  • Choose the citation style most commonly used in your discipline
  • Consider your space limitations and design aesthetic when deciding how to provide your citations.  Some options include:

    • Provide an abbreviated reference within your text

    • Create a "References" section at the end of the relevant section or at the bottom of the poster

    • Provide a handout or QR code for your references

  • Your poster should present your key findings - not every single thing your project uncovered - so you should only need to include your most crucial sources

    • If your poster requires a substantial bibliography you likely need to cut some content!
