Research Skills Classes

Classes

We offer instructional skills classes tailored to your class or assignment needs. Each session is taught by one of the Douglas College librarians during your regularly scheduled class time. Depending on the needs of your class, they may cover the library catalogue, article databases, subject specific resources, the Web, or citation style such as APA, MLA, and Chicago.

A typical class includes discussion, demonstration, and an opportunity for hands-on practice. This can be incorporated into a tailored assignment developed to fit you class needs. If you would like a customized exercise for your students to use during the session, we ask that you submit a copy of your assignment instructions a minimum of two weeks in advance. It's most beneficial to your students to schedule the class after you've discussed your assignment with them.

These assignments are marked by the library and returned approximately two weeks after the class.

To discuss content of your library research skills class and assignment please contact Alicia Arding at local 5181.

Scheduling

Instructional classes are available year round, however, time slots can fill up quickly so contact us as early as possible. We encourage students to have been introduced to their research assignment prior to coming to a research help class.
