Faculty Resource Guide

Understanding Copyright

Copyright is confusing. The College has created many resources to help faculty understand and follow copyright laws. It is the responsibility of all Faculty members to ensure that they are following the copyright guidelines when disseminating material for educational purposes.  Below is a list of resources put together by the College to help you figure out if you are covered under the Fair Dealings criteria.

In 2012, the Copyright Modernization Act expanded fair dealing to include education, parody and satire. Copying that does not fall within the following guidelines may require special permission:
                      *  up to ten percent of a work
                      *  an entire article, play, poem, essay, etc.
                      *  an entire chapter which is 20 percent or less of a book
