Provincial Bills

When referring to provincial bills, include the jurisdiction. 

 

Generic Citation for a Provincial Bill

 

Bill #, Long Title of the Bill, Session, Legislature, Year, Jurisdiction, Database (if needed).

 

Example

Bill 59, An Act to amend the Civil Code as regards marriage, 1st Sess, 37th Leg, Quebec, 2004.

 

 

APA In Text/ Parenthetical Citation: (Bill #, Year)

Example: (Bill 59, 2004)

Federal Bills

Bills originating in the House of Commons are preceded by “C-“.  Bills originating in the Senate are preceded by “S-“. 

Generic Citation of a Federal Bill

 

Bill #, Long Title of the Bill, Session, Legislature, Year, Clause(s) subdivision (if needed), Database (if needed).

NOTE: Abbreviate session to Sess, Abbreviate clause to cl (singular) or cls (plural).
