Welcome

This guide is intended to be one of several useful research support tools provided by the Library as you journey through the Psychiatric Nursing program.

My name is Shawnna Parlongo and I'm the liaison librarian for Health Sciences at Douglas College.  Both students and faculty are most welcome to book an appointment with me for additional research help.

For example,

  • if you need to brainstorm your search strategy, keyword choices etc

  • if you'd like a refresher on how to use library databases such as CINAHL or the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews

  • if you would like to check that you've looked in "all the right places" for the research you need

  • if you're struggling to find "enough" sources - or sources that are more current

  • if you need high quality statistics or datasets

  • if you'd like to learn about writing a research data management plan

  • if you'd like a basic introduction to a citation management tool like Zotero or Mendeley

  • I'm available for in-person appointments or via Zoom - and am happy to meet with you one-on-one or with your faculty or student research group members.

  • To check my availability and book an appointment click here for my calendar

  • Health Sciences faculty can book library workshops with my via this calendar or by emailing me directly.

The Library also participates in the Provincial AskAway chat reference service - which offers instant message help from real librarians!  If you need a hand "right now," AskAway is a great option.

PNUR Degree Completion Program: Introduction to Research Tutorial

While this course is openly accessible, and any Douglas College user is welcome to self-enroll, this tutorial was designed with the Degree Completion program in mind.  Note, while there is a final quiz which you must complete to officially "complete" the course there is no grade book and the Library retains no student records for this course.

  • See below to access the tutorial.  NOTE: When you click the link you may be directed to create an Articulate account.

    • Doing so is free and solely for the purpose of giving you access to the tutorial's software platform.

    • Note,  there is no grade book for the tutorial - so if you need to provide a certificate of completion to your course instructor, make sure to save/print/or take a screenshot of it before you log out!

  • If your course instructor requires proof of completion you should ensure that you download your certificate of completion when it's auto-generated by the system.

  • In order to earn the certificate you will need to finish the activities in all the modules and achieve 80% or higher on the final quiz.

  • If you do not succeed the first time, you may re-take the quiz one more time.
