GEOG 2311: Urban Environmental Sustainability

GEOG 2311 introduces students to the topic of environmental sustainability of cities. Cities are often at the forefront of dealing with a whole range of environmental, social and economic issues, otherwise known as sustainability. In this course students will explore various components of environmental sustainability including: 

  • Urban ecosystems
  • Urban environmental issues
  • Biodiversity of urban areas
  • Energy, waste management, and transportation
  • Urban green spaces
  • Green buildings
  • Environmental planning

 

The course examines, through a number of Case Studies, what cities around the world are doing to try and achieve sustainability, as well as local examples.
