The Douglas College Library also has another useful Marketing 3340/4483 Research Guide with excellent information, including an entire page of links for Company and Industry information.

Research Tip

  • When researching small sectors, local regions or specific names of local clients, academic articles and research are often not available and you find no results when searching.  You may not even be able to find mentions of your client in local newspapers.

If this happens try:

  • researching the broader industry or sector that your client belongs to (tourism, retail, personal care, arts and entertainment, etc.)
  • researching similar or related regions/businesses/industries
    • for example, if you're looking for information about a Vancouver company and find similar research about a company in Seattle or Sydney, those could be applicable to your research

Government Information

Government websites at all levels (federal, provincial, and municipal) can have valuable information useful for your assignments. When doing online searches, adding a government web domain to the end of your search can help your results.

For example:

  • searching charities and not-for-profits .gc.ca in Google will look for information about charities and not-for-profits from federal government websites
  • searching charities and not-for-profits .bc.ca in Google will look for information about charities and not-for-profits from provincial government websites
  • searching charities and not-for-profits City of Vancouver in Google will look for information about charities and not-for-profits from municipal government websites
